Visiting Hong Kong: The Best Places To Stay

Many consider Hong Kong to be the gateway to Asia. Hong Kong is an unbelievable city with a plethora of activities and sights to see. No matter where you travel in the city, you will be able to find English speakers so it’s a perfect city to start with for first-time Asia travellers.

With a city that holds more than seven million people, space is somewhat limited. While there are many different hotels in Hong Kong, travellers will have to pay a premium if they are looking for space and luxury. Regardless of your budget, the most favourable places to stay while you are in Hong Kong are a matter of opinion and personal preference. Here are the most popular areas and what you can expect.

Central

While this is considered to be Hong Kong’s financial core, Central is a sought-after place to stay since it is close to Victoria Peak and Lan Kwai Fong, the two most popular spots in the city. Victoria Peak offers breathtaking views while locals go to eat and drink in Lan Kwai Fong. Other attractions nearby include the International Finance Centre, the Mid-Levels Escalators, and the Man Mo Temple.

Tsim Sha Tsui

This popular tourist destination is located in the mainland of Hong Kong and the base of Kowloon. The biggest draw to this area is its closeness to the Victoria Harbour, which provides stunning views of Hong Kong’s incredible skyline. This area also has access to the Avenue of Stars, which is Hong Kong’s version of America’s Hollywood Walk of Fame. Additional attractions include Nathan Road, which is famous for its shopping and dining options.

Mong Kok

This area is mainly residential and doesn’t offer as much as far as hotel accommodations. It is, however, within walking distance of Temples Street and Langham Place, which offers a great contrast between new and old Hong Kong.

Wan Chai

Wan Chai is primarily a commercial area and although hotels might be cheaper in this direction, you’re not in the thick of all the action that the city has to offer. The only notable attraction is the Golden Bauhinia Square located near the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Centre; however, feel free to take a ride on the MTR and you’ll be able to get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time.

No matter what your travel plans are, Hong Kong offers a variety of hotel accommodations to fit every desire and budget. From large and luxurious hotels overlooking the city near the airport to smaller accommodations on the outskirts of the city, Hong Kong is sure to have something available for every trip and experience. One thing is for sure — your trip to Hong Kong will be the experience of a lifetime!
